Indonesia is facing the impact of climate change especially for women and children. Media Indonesia reported, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga said that during disasters due to climate change, women and children have a 14 times higher risk of death than men. Women have to suffer from food crises, clean water, rob, to vulnerability to gender-based violence as a result of these problems, especially for those living in coastal areas.

As a proclamation organization in the field of women, 'Aisyiyah, through the Institute for Environment and Disaster Management (LLHPB), the leaders of Aisyiyah Center and Lazismu PP Muhammadiyah in cooperation with the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) and LLHPB PWA Central Java and PDA Demak, carried out the planting of manggrove trees in Gemulak Beach, Dalema Village, Gemulak Village Sayung, Demak, Central Java, on Sunday (12/5/2024).

Chairman of LLHPB PP 'Aisyiyah, Rahmawati Husein said that this activity was carried out in an effort to strengthen women's resilience to disasters in coastal areas. “This is one of LLHPB PP 'Aisyiyah's programs to answer strategic issues that have been decided in Muktamar and is expected to be a milestone for disaster risk reduction in coastal areas throughout Indonesia, especially coasts prone to abrasion, abrasion, as well as coasts prone to tsunami disasters,” she said in a written statement.

This mangrove planting activity called Rahmawati is also part of the activities of strengthening women's capacity to save the earth together. Because in addition to performing manggrove plantings in coastal areas, LLHPB also carries out the planting of 1 million trees in upstream areas or mountainous areas to reduce flooding and landslides. “We hope that 'Aisyiyah all of Indonesia moves to take care of the earth,” she stressed.

Chairman of PP Aisyiyah, Salmah Orbayinah hopes that this mangrove planting program will not only take place at the beginning but can run continuously including in the process of its care so that it will provide maximum efficiency. 'Aisyiyah, called Salmah, is responsible for safeguarding the environment and reducing the risk of disasters. It also became one of the priority programs of 'Aisyiyah and also became strategic issues that were already thrown up when Muktamar.

“We are implementing this strategic issue later today in the form of manggrove planting which may also be underway in some areas and one of them is also in this Demak district, so God willing 'Aisyiyah shows its role in helping the preservation of the environment, helping mangrove habitat and also helping to reduce the risk of disasters considering that this Demak area is the area most often affected by rot, abrasion and flooding,” she explained.

This mangrove planting is in harmony with the 'Aisyiyah program that Salmah affirmed in his speech while celebrating the 107th Milad 'Aisyiyah. For Salmah, this year is an important momentum for 'Aisyiyah to continue strengthening its commitment in conducting universal humanitarian proclamations.

Salmah said that the proclamation of universal humanity is understood as a proclamation that crosses the boundaries of religion, nation and state. “Through this 107th Milad theme 'Aisyiyah reminds Indonesians that advanced women in the Islamic perspective are encouraged to play religious roles that spread the universal human values that respect lil-'alamin,” she explained.

The various roles of supplying goodness in the humanity of the universe called Salmah have been and will continue to be performed by 'Aisyiyah. These roles include the dissemination of interreligious and civilizational dialogue, the rescue of ecosystems and the environment at the global level, the world peace movement, and the anti-war movement such as in defending the Palestinian nation from Israeli aggression, the protection of women and children from all threats of violence as the embodiment of the Lil-'Alamin prayer.

“'Aisyiyah as a Muhammadiyah women's organization, is presented to realize the life of women in all aspects of life. Advancing women is the realm of mind and conditions of women's lives that progress in all aspects without experiencing barriers and discrimination both structurally and culturally,” she said.

SDGs

As a religious community, Aisyiyah has its own program of sustainable development goals by mobilizing resources, networks, and moral authority to provide solutions to the problems of poverty, gender inequality, environmental degradation, and peace.
