MOSAIC-INDONESIA.COM, Nearly a year since 'Sedekah Energi' program illuminated Al Khoiriyah Mosque, Curug Village, Karyasari Village, Garut, West Java. The mosque which is located inside Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Ulum has brought social benefits for the students and societies.

Boarding school caretaker Ustadz M. Syambas Assyafiie revealed that solar panels that enlight the mosque with solar energy distinguish it from other mosques around Garut. Especially, when the area of the village got a power outage.

A teacher which is known as Ustadz Aceng said byarpet in his village does occur quite often. Within a week, there were at least four to five power outages in the hamlet. “If the adzan just turns off the lights, only Al Khoiriyah Mosque sounds,” Ustadz Aceng said in a conversation with MOSAIC

In addition to reviving the mosque, the clean energy that comes from the Sedekah Energi Muslim  Shared Actions on Climate Impact (MOSAIC), is enjoyed by all the santri at Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Ulum. He said that the sleeping rooms in the boarding school can be lit by drawing electricity from solar panels. According to him, at least 20 santri mukim in the boarding school no longer need to pay for electricity. Ustadz Aceng revealed that the bills listed in the accounts of PLN pesantren and mosques are now almost zero rupiah.

Not only that, the clean energy from Salafi pesantren, which has a total of 120 santri,  also electrified the water pumps used for hydroponics. Therefore, this PLTS, which produces 5,750 WP, is capable to supporting electricity needs, not only for worship and social activities that exist in Masjid and Pondok Pesantren, but also to empower both pesantren and villages.

According to Ustadz Aceng, there are two to five santri working part-time in hydroponics run by the Salman Charity House. The result of hydroponics is in the form of vegetables and tilapia. “Hydroponics has 14 holes if it comes from fish, per pond it can be seven quintals,”he said.

The vegetables from this hydroponics  sold to the village through a stunting countermeasure program. According to him, the boarding school was not officially involved in the empowerment program. “We just need a place,"he added.

Electricity subsidies for tilapia aquaculture water pumps and hydroponic farming. This cultivation is part of a stunting alleviation program managed by BUMdes. More than 30 residents, village centers and equipment located around the mosque have received training, including nine women.

Training is also carried out to institutions and village communities such as Ibu-Ibu PKK, Posyandu, Patkuy youth community, and peasant groups. They are involved and enthusiastic in studying how to utilize rooftop PLTS and how they can be involved in the maintenance and development of these PLTS.
