Just energy trantition in Climate Hijrah Workshop 3.0
Alumni this year are expected to be trusted messengers
MOSAIC-INDONESIA.COM, JAKARTA — Muslim Shared Actions on Climate Impact (MOSAIC) held the Climate Hijrah Workshop (BHI) which took place in Boemisora, Semarang Regency, Central Java, on 3-8 February 2025. In this third year, BHI chose to focus the theme of a more specific equitable energy transition than the previous year.
A total of 20 participants from different regions of the archipelago will participate in this BHI 3.0. They were selected from 265 registrants hailing from 29 different provinces. For almost a week, participants will learn about equitable energy transition in Islamic perspective, campaigning and organizing, e.g. dis/information centers, Islamic philanthropic support for an equitable energy transition, and sustainable law.
This year's alumni are expected to be trusted messengers or trusted messengers who can influence decision-making and policy, as well as public opinions and attitudes about equitable energy transition in Indonesia, to support Indonesia's ambitions and commitments in the energy transition process.
MOSAIC coordinator Ian Agisti Dewi Rani said climate change is a global problem that threatens the lives of living beings on earth. Indonesia is currently facing a variety of problems, ranging from increased rainfall and landslides, rising sea levels causing flooding, to water crises leading to drought.
In the midst of this threat, conditions are actually clouded by the spread of misinformation, disinformation, misinformation, and fake news about climate issues on the Internet and in the media. According to Ian, it takes a trusted group of people to lift climate narratives and disseminate real solutions, such as an equitable energy transition.
The Purpose study found that Muslims trust religious leaders more than climate experts or even governments when it comes to climate issues. “Therefore, the Climate Hijrah Workshop (BHI) is here to invite young Islamic leaders to discuss the climate crisis, equitable energy transition, campaigning, and organizing, as well as disinformation,” he said.
BHI is one of the initiatives of Muslims for Shared Action on Climate Impact (MOSAIC), or Collaboration of Muslims for Sustainable Indonesia. The collaboration was initiated by individuals from LPBI NU, MLH Muhammadiyah, Republika, Purpose, and Pares UGM. In 2022, Enter Nusantara and AktivAsia joined MOSAIC, confirming the involvement of young people in collaboration.
