MOSAIC-INDONESIA.COM, JAKARTA — To preserve the environment and support just energy considered to be part of the worship and obligation for human as the caliphs on earth. Those become conclusion in a Workshop Session entitled 'Islam and the Environment: Faith in Action' in Jakarta on Friday (11/9/2025) organized by Moslem Shared Actions for Climate Impact (MOSAIC), GreenFaith and Kata Data Green.

The event, which is part of the Katadata SAFE 2025 series of activities, was attended by Hening Parlan, National Coordinator of GreenFaith Indonesia as a speaker, and moderated by Elok Faiqotul Mutia as Associate Campaign Director, Purpose and Head of MOSAIC Communications Division. Both are part of a team of authors of the book Fikih Transition of Equitable Energy, which was compiled together with Muhammadiyah.

“As Muslims, man is the caliph of the Fil ardh, so we must not act corruptly, because we are the long term God glorifies the earth,” Hening said. “The Messenger of Allah also encouraged people to love God's fellow creatures, including trees, plants, rivers, and all His creations on earth,” Hening explained in a written statement.

According to Hening, the effort of reading the surroundings and reflecting on what happened, became an important thing that man needed to do as caliph. In doing so, they can absorb information and optimize the mind and body that God has endowed. “We can learn from the verses of the Koran, for example, about how God has lowered the rain, created the wind, the sea, the sun, to encourage us to innovate to create renewable energy,” he said.

The struggle of the Prophet

As for the struggle of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in building worshippers through daqwah, Hening continued, became an example of the importance of consistent and consistent leadership in building a movement. “As in conducting environmental action, we need to be disciplined, consistent, focus on the main issues, there are practical activities, and do not forget to continue to act,” Hening said. “There is no need to rush, the most important thing is the ability to step up,”he said.

Mutia called for the religious teachings text to be interpreted more broadly. “We can begin to discuss and deepen religious teachings on efforts to preserve this environment through study, preaching, on environmental themes that are spoken by the Ustadz and Ustadzah or other religious leaders,” he said.

Mutia also mentioned that by having strong organizing resources, organizations such as 'Aisyiyah and Muhammadiyah, can spread or duplicate environmental initiatives from one place to another more easily.

“The example of Shodaqoh Trash initials in Yogyakarta, from garbage, can be developed and utilized to help our brothers in need. By having a strong community, being able to learn from each other, and walk together,” Mutia said.

She also affirmed that the spirit of broadcasting environmental program initiatives, is also part of jihad fii sabilillah.
