Bantul (ANTARA) - Collaboration of Muslims for Climate Impact (MOSAIK) Energy Alms program provides solar-powered electricity for Al Muharram Brajan Mosque, Tamantirto, Bantul Regency, Special Areas Jakarta, in order to support electricity needs in religious and social activities around the place of worship.

“Solar panels with a total capacity of 4,280 WP have been functioning so that it is useful to meet the various operational electricity needs of the mosque as well as the environmental and social activities of citizens,” Mosaic Gatot Supangkat Steering Board said during the handover of solar panels at Al Muharram Brajan Mosque, Bantul, on Saturday.

Electric support in the form of solar panels entirely sourced from solar power, he said, in order to complement Masjid Al Muharram's commitment to become a pilot mosque with an eco-friendly concept, as well as as a pioneer eco-mosque.

“In addition to being a beautiful home, the mosque also serves as a center of community activity and the spread of Shi'ar Islam. We appreciate the various environmental initiatives at Al Muharram Mosque that are committed to real, and care for the preservation of the environment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Takmir Masjid Al Muharram Ananto Isworo said there are eight solar panels with a capacity of 535 WP each, two inverter units, and two battery units have been installed, as well as being able to meet 100 percent of the electricity needs of the mosque, which is the center of worship and social activities for 600 worshippers.

“The electricity generated will also help lighting in learning and teaching activities in early childhood education schools (PAUD), as well as other social activities of citizens,” he said.

According to him, training on the operation and maintenance of solar panels has also been provided to 17 male and 13 female worshipers of Al Muharram Mosque.

“Through this transfer of knowledge, it is hoped that residents and worshippers can take a role in self-maintenance, so that solar panels can function properly for up to 25 years to come,” he said.

Ananto said that the presence of solar panels to support electricity needs at Al Muharram Mosque complements the mosque's commitment to become an environmentally friendly pilot mosque.

“Having solar panels was our ideal for a long time because we wanted to realize the eco-mosque thoroughly after applying the concept in various aspects such as building architecture, reforestation wells and garbage alms programs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Energy Alms Coordinator Elok Faiqotul Mutia said that energy charity in Yogyakarta is realized from various digital campaign and crowdfunding efforts, where 5,538 people have participated in energy donation in just two months.

“This shows great enthusiasm and the Muslim community to contribute to the realization of renewable energy, especially through the burial of mosques,” he said.

The concept of alms introduced, he continued, also occurs in two directions, where alms are realized for the technical procurement of solar panels following the increase in the capacity of the community, as well as alms from the surrounding communities to manage and maintain the solar panel system.
